It does (*), the proposed âpingâ (a) makes the operationâs intent clear and (b) is, at the serverâs discretion, not logged (thereby avoiding the âspamâ issue).

(*) We currently use âDiscover Versionsâ also, but have (a) received complaints about log spamming and (b) questions as to why it is being called all of the time

I thought that Discover Versions operation required authentication. We use this mechanism all the time to do a ping.
