Subject: Re: [legalruleml] Interpretation in LegalRuleML
Hi Adam,we have discussed in the last TC the priorities for arriving to the Public Review deadline for the end of the year.
We can put this topic for the next year.We have to finish the defeasibilty example, the schema discussion, the temporal issues.

After discussion some time ago about interpretation, I did some reading/thinking about the topic. It seems to me that some indication of interpretive heuristic might be essential for legalruleML since such heuristics play an important role in understanding what any piece of law means relative to context. An interesting resource in this regard is: Reading Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts Antonin Scalia and Bryan A. Garner 2012 This catalogs the various interpretive tools. They argue for textual basis for interpretation, but that is not the key use of the book for our purposes. Will be interesting to see if this will fit into legalruleML or not. Perhaps this is a topic for discussion in the TC tomorrow. Cheers, Adam
