Ballot Title: Call for consent of LegalRuleML Core Specification V1.0 as an OASIS Standard Question LegalRuleML Core Specification V1.0 CS 02 has been presented to the membership by the LegalRuleML TC [1] as a candidate for OASIS Standard. Do you consent or object to its approval as an OS? Voting Results 9 of 178 eligible companies cast their vote before the deadline. - Consent received 9 Votes - Object received 0 Votes The ballot received 0 comments. Description Legal texts, e.g. legislation, regulations, contracts, and case law, are the source of norms, guidelines, and rules that govern societies. As text, it is difficult to label, exchange, and process content except by hand. In our current web-enabled world, where innovative e-government and e-commerce are increasingly the norm, providing machine-processable forms of legal content is crucial. The objective of the LegalRuleML Core Specification Version 1.0 is to define a standard (expressed with XML-schema and Relax NG and on the basis of Consumer RuleML 1.02) that is able to represent the particularities of the legal normative rules with a rich, articulated, and meaningful mark-up language. LegalRuleML models: - defeasibility of rules and defeasible logic; - deontic operators (e.g., obligations, permissions, prohibitions, rights); - semantic management of negation; - temporal management of rules and temporality in rules; - classification of norms (i.e., constitutive, prescriptive); - jurisdiction of norms; - isomorphism between rules and natural language normative provisions; - identification of parts of the norms (e.g. bearer, conditions); - authorial tracking of rules. The TC received 4 Statements of Use from Livio Robaldo, Swansea University, CSIRO Data61, and CirSFID-AlmaAI.[2]. This is a call to the Organizational Members of OASIS to consent or object to this approval. You are welcome to register your consent explicitly on the ballot; however your consent is assumed unless you register an objection [3]. To register an objection, you must: 1. Indicate your objection on this ballot, and 2. Provide a reason for your objection and/or a proposed remedy to the TC. You may provide the reason in the comment box or by email to the Technical Committee on its comment mailing list or, if you are a member of the TC, to the TC's mailing list [4]. If you provide your reason by email, please indicate in the subject line that this is in regard to the Call for Consent. Note that failing to provide a reason and/or remedy may result in an objection being deemed invalid.
