Cancellation of conference telephone service

As of July first, the LegalXML Member Section will no longer be paying for conference calling services.

The Steering Committee has been using the free conference calling services provided by FreeConference.com for a number of months and have found the free online process to be easy, convenient, and reliable.

To use FreeConference.com you must sign up on the website. Each time you log on you must use your user name and password. The process for scheduling a call is straightforward. The free service includes email notification of participants, including an agenda. To use this function you have to go to the effort of entering all the email addresses of your TC members. So, I have not been using that service. I have been notifying Steering Committee members of the calls through the OASIS lists.

FreeConference.com offers toll free conference calls at commercial rates. It also offers fee-based recording and transcription of its calls. But the basic conference calling bridging service is free.

Should this free conference calling service go out of business or should we find that its services prove to be less reliable than the Steering Committee’s experience suggests, we will reconsider our cancellation of the commercial service.

I believe that setting the effective date of this policy for June will give each TC chair or secretary the opportunity to become familiar with the free online service and will give Barbara Erbes the opportunity to cancel our current commercial service agreement conveniently.
