The rest of their maps seem to be broken.  You can use 
www.whereis.com.au instead.  (use "2000" in the suburb/town field, and 
"NSW" in the state drop down)

http://www.discoversydney.com.au/images/explorer.JPG may also be useful 
for orientation, although street names are illegible

The CBD ('central business district' or downtown) is such that chances 
are that any hotel in the CBD should be okay (depending how you weigh 
various criteria).
