Subject: Updates on Etymology Module

Hi all,
I haven't got round to updating the DocBook yet, but I examined
Bowers and Romary's paper and came up with the following proposed
model for etymology in LEXIDMA
- Both entries and senses can have etymologies (according to
Jack and Laurent... I am a bit suspicious of sense etymologies
still)
- Following Jack and Laurent, it is probably best to have a
single object 'Etymon' in place of
derivation/cognate/borrowing/etc. with a type parameter
- Etymons can have grammatical labels like inflected forms in
case a particular form is the source of the etymology
- Etymons can be compounded to handle mixed etymologies (e.g.,
polylingual from poly- (Greek) and lingua (Latin))
- Etymologies can have dates associated with them
- There should be a relation system to connected etymological
forms with entries, senses and other etymons
- We should support non-standard language tagging, but this is
probably part of the Controlled Vocabularies module.
We can discuss this further on Monday.
Regards,
John
