Open Source Advocate, Mitch Kapor, Will Keynote at OASIS Symposium



Mitchell Kapor, founder and President of the Open Source Applications
Foundation, will deliver the keynote address at the OASIS Symposium, to be
held Monday, 25 April, in New Orleans. Kapor is also the founder of the
Lotus Development Corporation, co-founder of the Electronic Freedom
Foundation and current director of both the Mitchell Kapor Foundation and
the Level Playing Field Institute.

WSDM Approved as OASIS Standard



Both the Web Services Distributed Management (WSDM) - Management Using Web
Services (MUWS) and the WSDM - Management of Web Services (MOWS)
specifications have been voted on and approved as OASIS Standards. The two
WSDM specifications were developed by the OASIS WSDM TC and serve together
to define a method for utilizing Web services to manage distributed
resources. The TC members and co-chairs are to be congratulated on their
work in developing these standards.

SAML Approved as OASIS Standard



The Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) v2.0, developed by the OASIS
Security Services TC, has been approved as an OASIS Standard. SAML defines
an XML-based framework for exchanging and managing security information
online. Congratulations to the TC members and co-chairs for their work in
advancing this standard.

OASIS on the Agenda



11 Mar - Best Practices in Standards Setting. Cambridge, MA. Leaders from
the standards community will gather to share their perspectives on the best
practices to use in standards strategy. Patrick Gannon will give a keynote
presentation on the ROI of standards participation. This event is
complimentary for OASIS members, but space is limited.



13-16 Mar - Global Grid Forum. Seoul, Korea. This forum will feature a
variety of speakers and tutorials focusing on GRID computing. Patrick Gannon
will speak on the subject of OASIS's role in GRID computing.



15-17 Mar - Planning and Implementing Service Oriented Architecture. Sydney,
Australia. Organizations that have already benefited from Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA) will present case studies and share insight into the
adaptation of SOA to other organizational structures. Patrick Gannon will be
making a keynote address regarding SOA. OASIS members are eligible for a
discount.



21-24 Mar - BuilConn America. Dallas, Texas. The BuilConn Conference will
provide a comprehensive array of information for the stakeholders of the
integrated building industry. Patrick Gannon will speak on oBIX standards,
as well as participating in panels on open systems in buildings and IT-based
open systems. OASIS members are eligible for a discount.
