Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium.

Consortium Issues Call for Participation in New OASIS Web Services Quality Model TC

This week, the formation of the OASIS Web Services Quality Model TC was announced. The objective of the committee will be to
specify an overall model of Web services quality that will include three components: quality factors; associate roles; and
activities. This work should be of interest to anyone involved with Web Services or SOA. The inaugural TC meeting will be a
teleconference on 12 Oct.

OpenDocument and DITA to Be Focus of Special Event

OpenDocument and Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) will be showcased at a special add-on event following the OASIS
Adoption Forum. DITA builds content reuse into the authoring process for document creation and management. OpenDocument provides a
royalty-free, XML-based file format that covers features required by text, spreadsheets, charts, and graphical documents. The event
will take place 18 Oct and is sponsored by Sun Microsystems and IBM. Attendees of the OASIS Adoption Forum may participate in the
event at no additional cost.

Semantion Contributes Spec to OASIS ebSOA TC

Consortium member, Semantion, has contributed Federal Enterprise Reference Architecture (FERA)-based documents to the OASIS
Electronic Business Service Oriented Architecture (ebSOA) TC. The specification includes Run-time SOA v0.1 and SOA Information
Model v0.1. SOA Collaboration Semantics v0.1 will be added to the package soon. The document package will address SOA semantic
integration issues.

On Wednesday, 14 Sept, DataPower, IBM, HP, Hitachi, and TIBCO joined together to demonstrate interoperability of the Web Services
Distributed Management (WSDM) OASIS Standard at the Enterprise Management World conference in Bethesda, Maryland. More than 40
people attended the InterOp, which employed a weather station scenario to demonstrate how WSDM allows management applications to be
built using Web services, permitting resources to be controlled by many managers through a single interface.
