OASIS Open Standards Day Beijing attracts record numbers

OASIS executives and members participated in two events last month to promote
the use of open standards in China. The 'Beijing 2007 Open Standards
International Meeting' and the 'OASIS Open Standards Day' explored the promises
and challenges of open standards, open source software and SOA. Over 400
delegates attended the events, which were jointly sponsored by Changfeng
Alliance, Beijing Software Industry Productivity Center and OASIS with support
from the Ministry of Information Industry, the Ministry of Science &
Technology, the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Committee, the China
Electronic Standardization Institute and the China National Institute of
Standardization. A meeting of the OASIS Board of Directors was graciously
hosted by Changfeng Alliance, Beijing Sursen, and eBridge. Conference
presentations from representatives of OASIS, ITU, W3C, LISA, OGC, the Linux
Foundation, Microsoft, Sun, Adobe, and many others are now available online.

Companies support Member Sections through new program

The consortium has formalized a new program to encourage organizations and
individuals to advance the work of OASIS Member Sections by underwriting
specific activities. Donors may contribute any amount to the OASIS CGM Open,
eGov, Emergency Interoperability, IDtrust, LegalXML, or Open CSA Member
Sections. Donations may be used for specific purposes, such as to defer meeting
expenses, produce educational materials, hire program managers, etc. or to
support general activities of a Member Section. An OASIS member who donates
5,500 USD or more annually (in addition to their OASIS Foundational or
Sponsor-level dues) may have their organization's logo linked from every page
of the Member Section's web site.

TAB ballot closes soon

Two candidates, Frank McCabe and David RR Webber, have accepted nominations to
fill a vacated seat on the OASIS Technical Advisory Board. The TAB provides
guidance on issues related to strategy, process, interoperability, and scope of
OASIS technical work. Each OASIS Foundational, Sponsor, and Contributor member
organization is asked to cast a ballot in the election, which is underway now
and will close 4 Jan.
