OASIS Standard vote on Solution Deployment Descriptor 1.0 opens

Balloting for SDD 1.0 is underway now and will remain open until 31 Aug. SDD defines a standardized way to express software installation characteristics required for lifecycle management in a multi-platform environment. The specification was developed by representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsors, IBM and Sun Microsystems, and by CA, Fujitsu, SAP, SAS Institute, and others. All organizational members of OASIS are encouraged to vote on SDD; those who wish to discuss this ballot may do so through member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org.

Identity Metasystem Interoperability (IMI) TC forms

All interested parties are invited to participate in the new OASIS IMI Technical Committee. This group will work to increase the quality and number of interoperable implementations of Information Cards and associated identity system components to enable the Identity Metasystem. The IMI TC will operate under the Royalty Free on RAND Mode of the OASIS IPR Policy and will affiliate with the IDtrust Member Section. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsor, IBM, as well as CA, Microsoft, Nortel, the US Department of Defense, VeriSign, and others. Abbie Barbir of Nortel is the convener; a TC chair or two co-chairs will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held 29 Sept, near London, in conjunction with the OASIS Open Standards Forum.

Unstructured Info Management Architecture public review begins

Developed by the OASIS Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA) TC, UIMA 1.0 defines a standard for semantic search and content analytics. This public review ends 8 Oct.

OpenDocument 1.0 Errata 01 public review begins

Developed by the OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications TC, OpenDocument is an XML-based file format for documents containing text, spreadsheets, charts, and graphical elements. This public review of errata ends 22 Aug.

WMO, ITU, and OASIS to host CAP public warning workshop in Geneva

All interested parties are invited to participate in a high-level implementation workshop on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) OASIS Standard. Organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), ITU, and OASIS, the workshop
will take place in Geneva on 9-10 Dec.

Registration opens for DITA and XLIFF webinars

Attendees will learn how to reduce the costs and risks of translating XML content using the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) and the XML Localisation Interchange File Format (XLIFF) standards. The webinars, which will be held 18 and 23 Sept, are free and open to the public; however, registration is required.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) works to conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet U.S. economic, social, and environmental needs. OASIS Telecom holds special Steering Committee election
 
Michael Giordano of Avaya and Enrico Ronco of Telecom Italia are candidates for a one-year seat on the OASIS Telecom Member Section Steering Committee. The balloting is underway and will remain open until 2 Sept.

Microsoft sponsors upcoming OASIS Security Forum near London

The annual OASIS Forum on "Security Challenges for the Information Society" will be held 30 Sept through 3 Oct at Ditton Manor near London. In addition to Microsoft, sponsors include Alcatel-Lucent, Axiomatics, CA, IBM, Nortel, Oracle, Primeton, and Sun Microsystems. Register for the Forum by 29 Aug and save 200 USD.
