Solution Deployment Descriptor (SDD) becomes an OASIS Standard

Members have approved SDD version 1.0 as an OASIS Standard. SDD defines a standardized way to express software installation characteristics required for lifecycle management in a multi-platform environment Congratulations to SDD TC chair, Brent Miller of IBM, and to all TC participants including representatives of IBM, Sun Microsystems, CA, Fujitsu, SAP AG, and SAS Institute for this accomplishment.

OASIS Standard vote on UOML 1.0 opens soon

Balloting for the Unstructured Operation Markup Language (UOML) Part 1 version 1.0 will be held 16-30 Sept. UOML defines a markup language for unstructured document operation. The specification was developed by representatives of Primeton Technologies, Avaya, and others. All organizational members of OASIS are encouraged to vote on UOML; those who wish to discuss this ballot may do so through member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org.

Customer Information Quality (CIQ) 3.0 public review begins

CIQ 3.0 defines Name (xNL), Address (xAL), Name and Address (xNAL), and Party Information (xPIL) specifications. This public review ends 13 Sept.

Members seek feedback on ODF Interoperability TC draft charter

All interested parties are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the OASIS Open Document Format Interoperability and Conformance (OIC) TC. The new group intends to produce materials and host events to help implementers create applications that conform to the ODF OASIS Standard and that are able to interoperate. OIC TC proposers include representatives of IBM, Sun Microsystems, Google, Novell, US Department of Defense, and others. The comment period for this draft charter closes 8 Sept.

Robin Cover is named OASIS Director of Information Services

Robin has provided support and guidance to the consortium since 1998--and to the field of structured information standards for more than three decades. In addition to serving as editor of The Cover Pages and XML Daily Newslink, Robin plays a major role at OASIS in ensuring open access to information and support for the standards development process. He provides requirements analysis and conceptual model design to support internal and external applications conforming to Web Architecture best practices.

TC Scheduler Workbook is now available

This new resource makes it easy to calculate timelines for starting TCs and for moving specifications through public reviews and OASIS Standard ballots. Produced by Mary McRae, OASIS director of TC Administration, the Workbook includes two spreadsheets and a video tutorial.
