Members propose Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) TC

All interested parties are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) Technical Committee. KMIP will work to develop specifications for key lifecycle management, key sharing, long-term availability of cryptographic objects, and related areas. KMIP TC proposers include representatives of EMC, HP, IBM, and others; Robert Griffin of EMC serves as convener. The member comment period for this draft charter closes 26 Feb.

OASIS Standard vote opens for UIMA 1.0

Balloting for the Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA) 1.0 is now underway and will close 28 Feb. UIMA defines platform-independent data representations and interfaces for software components or services called analytics, which analyze and assign semantics to unstructured information. The specification was developed by representatives of IBM, EMC, and others. All organizational members of OASIS are encouraged to vote on UIMA; those who wish to discuss the ballot may do so through member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org.

SDD 1.0 Errata public review ends soon

Solution Deployment Descriptor (SDD) defines a standardized way to express software installation characteristics required for lifecycle management in a multi-platform environment. This public review ends 18 Feb.

eGov Member Section announces Steering Committee election results

Bob Sunday of the Canadian Public Works and Government Services, Colin Wallis of the New Zealand State Services Commission, John Borras of Pensive SA, and Bill Barnhill of Booz Allen Hamilton will each serve two-year terms. Tanguy Swinnen of Deloitte and Charles Schultz of ARS APERTA will each serve a one-year term. The OASIS eGov Member Section provides a focal point for discussions of governmental and public administration requirements for e-business standardization. OASIS congratulates all those elected and expresses deep appreciation to departing eGov Steering Committee members, Peter Brown, Steve Jones, Sri Gopalan, and Honbo Zhou.

KIEC appoints new Korean translator for OASIS News

OASIS thanks the Korea Institute for Electronic Commerce (KIEC) for donating the services of Jinny Ahn, who will begin translating this newsletter into Korean. The consortium expresses gratitude to Sang-Won Lim, also of KIEC, for his past service in translating OASIS News. The public is invited to subscribe to OASIS News in Korean by sending email to oasisnewskr-subscribe@lists.oasis-open.org.

Public discusses OASIS Blue on new XML.org Forum and mailing list
XML.org launched the OASIS Blue Forum to support open dialogue on how interoperability standards can be used to advance sustainability goals. Topics on Security, Energy and Collaboration, and Transparency and Auditability are all under discussion. Concurrently, subscribers to the public smartgrid-discuss mailing list are collaborating on a draft proposal to form an OASIS Energy Interoperation TC. Everyone is welcome to observe or participate in these discussions.
