OASIS members elect Board and TAB

Dave Ings of IBM and Paul Lipton of CA were elected, Peter Brown of Pensive, Mike DeNicola of Fujitsu, and Eduardo Gutentag of Sun Microsystems were re-elected to the OASIS Board of Directors, which also includes Bob Freund of Hitachi, Robert Glushko of UC Berkeley, Frederick Hirsch of Nokia, Jim Hughes of Microsoft, Paul Knight, and Jeff Mischkinsky of Oracle. Martin Chapman of Oracle, William Cox, and Patrick Durusau were re-elected to the Technical Advisory Board (TAB). The Consortium expresses deepest appreciation to departing Board members, Michael Winters of IBM, who has served on the Board since 2001, and Claus von Riegen of SAP, who has served on the Board since 2005.

Board invites members to open meeting

The OASIS Board of Directors has designated its 30-31 July face-to-face meeting as open to members. The meeting will be held at Oracle's offices in Burlington, Massachusetts, USA. A draft agenda will be available on 14 July. To ensure adequate seating, members are asked to register in advance with member-services@oasis-open.org.

WS-Discovery, SOAP-over-UDP, DPWS become OASIS Standards

Members have approved versions 1.1 of the Web Services Dynamic Discovery (WS-Discovery), SOAP-over-UDP, and Devices Profile for Web Services (DPWS) specifications as OASIS Standards. Developed by the Web Services Discovery and Web Services Devices Profile (WS-DD) TC, these new standards enable secure Web service messaging, discovery, description, and eventing on resource-constrained endpoints. Congratulations to the WS-DD TC chairs, Alain Regnier of Ricoh and Toby Nixon of Microsoft, and to all TC participants including representatives of Foundational Sponsors, IBM and Microsoft, and Sponsors, CA, Novell, Progress Software, Red Hat, Ricoh, and Software AG, for this accomplishment.

IMI becomes OASIS Standard

Members have approved the Identity Metasystem Interoperability (IMI) version 1.0 as an OASIS Standard. IMI allows users to manage their digital identities as "Information Cards" and use them to access online services. Congratulations to the IMI TC chair, Marc Goodner of Microsoft, and to all TC participants including representatives of Foundational Sponsors, IBM and Microsoft, and Sponsors, CA and Novell, for this accomplishment.

DocBook Publishers Schema 1.0 public review begins

The DocBook Publishers Schema provides an official variant of DocBook to support the publishing of periodicals, journals, non-technical books, educational textbooks, and other document types. This public review ends 31 August.

IDtrust invites presentations for Identity Management 2009

"Transparent Government: Risks, Rewards and Repercussions" is the theme of the event, which will be held 29-30 September at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) near Washington, D.C. OASIS is currently seeking proposals for presentations and panel sessions that relate to security challenges faced in identity management and access to information on large scales. The deadline to submit proposals is 10 July.

ebCore Committee publishes brochure

The benefits of ebXML are outlined in a new document aimed at users, business executives, services administrators, and applications solutions providers. An overview of where ebXML is being used is included.

OASIS co-sponsors Balisage Markup Conference

Mary McRae, OASIS Director of Standards Development, will participate in the "XML Best Practices" panel session at this year's Balisage Markup Conference in Montreal, 11-14 August. Balisage is a peer-reviewed conference designed to meet the needs of markup theoreticians and practitioners who are pushing the boundaries of the field.
