Dear OASIS members,
The year 2012 was a busy one for all of us. Before popping the
champagne corks on New Year's Eve, we at OASIS want to take a
moment to toast your amazing achievements.
In 2012, you launched ten new Technical Committees addressing a
broad range of Cloud or Web-based issues, as well as privacy and
legal content processing: AMQP Bindings and Mappings, Cloud Application Management
for Platforms (CAMP), Cloud
Authorization, LegalDocumentML, LegalRuleML, Open Data Protocol
(OData), Privacy by Design Documentation for Software Engineers
(PbD-SE), Web Experience Management Interoperability (WEMI), and
Web Services Basic Reliable and Secure Profiles (WS-BRSP). As we go into 2013, you have
four more TCs preparing to launch, and that’s just in Q1. We
expect many more projects to come to fruition next year.
Your work output was equally impressive: OASIS TCs approved 27
Committee Specifications and 12 Committee Notes. In addition, you
approved five new OASIS Standards: OASIS Advanced Message Queueing
Protocol (AMQP) Version 1.0, Biometric Identity Assurance Services
(BIAS) SOAP Profile Version 1.0, ebXML RegRep Version 4.0, Test
Assertions Model Version 1.0, Web Services Security v1.1.1 – and
seven more Committee Specifications lined up to be presented as
Candidate OASIS Standards in January.
You weren't just busy on the bread-and-butter of producing
specifications and supporting documents. OASIS TCs also did a lot
to promote their specifications and demonstrate their value,
including: KMIP and XACML Interop at the RSA conference, the EDXL
Standards Showcase at IAEM, and webinars on XLIFF, TGF, KMIP,
SAML. Members also spoke at events around the world, including our
own Cloud Standards Lightning Rounds in Boston and our
International Cloud Symposium in Washington, DC. We’re making
plans now for an OASIS member meeting and reception in conjunction
with the Cloud Connect conference in Santa Clara, California in
April. Details will be announced in the coming weeks, but we hope
to see all of you there.
We feel blessed and proud to serve such an active member base. As
OASIS staff, we work hard to be good stewards of the TC Process,
efficient administrators of our vibrant community and successful
promoters of your work – but ultimately we strive for the smallest
footprint possible, and do our best to get out of your way so you
can create the world-changing technologies that constantly bring
us closer to an interoperable planet.
We send you our heartfelt congratulations and thanks for your
accomplishments past and future, and are pleased to extend our
warmest wishes for a healthy and prosperous new year.
