OASIS celebrates 20th anniversary

The milestone will be marked by two member gatherings in 2013. The first will be held in Santa Clara, California on 3 Apr, as part of the Cloud Connect conference. It will include an open mic session for vetting ideas on new standards projects, briefings on upcoming ballots and public reviews, micro-presentations on Cloud standards, Distinguished Contributor Awards, and the Members & Friends Reception, hosted by Foundational Sponsors: IBM, ISIS Papyrus, Microsoft, and Primeton. A second member gathering is planned for Europe later this year.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) TC forms

This group will work to advance a lightweight publish/subscribe reliable messaging transport, optimized to connect physical world devices/messages and events with enterprise servers and other consumers. MQTT addresses the M2M/Internet of Things (IoT) marketplace and is ideal for many applications including mobile. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsor, IBM, Sponsor, Software AG, and others. Scott de Deugd of IBM is the convener; a TC chair or two co-chairs will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held on 25 Mar at EclipseCon Boston. (Teleconference facilities will be provided for those who cannot attend in person.) All interested parties are invited to participate; contact join@oasis-open.org for details.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PKCS 11 TC forms

This group will work to adapt one of the most widely implemented Public-Key Cryptography Standards, PKCS #11, for mobile/cloud applications. PKCS #11 specifies a platform-independent API for cryptographic tokens which store and control authentication information (personal identity, cryptographic keys, certificates, digital signatures, biometric data, etc). TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Sponsors, EMC/RSA, Cryptsoft, Oracle, SafeNet, Thales e-Security, and others. Robert Griffin of RSA is the convener; a TC chair or two co-chairs will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held 4 Mar in San Francisco (teleconference facilities provided for those who cannot attend in person). All interested parties are invited to participate; contact join@oasis-open.org for details.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Biometrics TC forms

The new TC's goal is to create standards that improve interoperability, making biometrics more viable within multi-factor authentication. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Sponsors, 3M, Booz Allen Hamilton, US Department of Defense (DoD), US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and others. Kevin Mangold and Ross Micheals of US NIST are the conveners; TC chair(s) will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held via teleconference on 12 Feb. All interested parties are invited to participate; contact join@oasis-open.org for details.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Public Administration Cloud Requirements (PACR) TC forms

This group will develop a set of common required functional elements and measurable criteria that should be present in cloud computing services or installations employed by public administrations. TC proposers include representatives of Belgian SPF Finances, Cisco, New Zealand Government, and others. John Borras is the convener; TC chair(s) will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held via teleconference on 28 Feb. All interested parties are invited to participate; contact join@oasis-open.org for details.

KMIP 1.1 and KMIP Profiles 1.1 become OASIS Standards

Members have approved the version 1.1 of the Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) and KMIP Profiles as OASIS Standards. KMIP establishes a single, comprehensive protocol for communication between enterprise key management servers and cryptographic clients. Congratulations to the KMIP TC co-chairs, Robert Griffin of RSA and Subhash Sankuratripati of NetApp, and to all TC participants including representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsor, IBM, and Sponsors, Axway, CA Technologies, CertiVox, Cryptsoft, EMC, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, Red Hat, SafeNet, Symantec, Thales e-Security, U.S. NIST, Venafi, VMware, Vormetric, and others for this accomplishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XACML 3.0 becomes OASIS Standard

The standard defines a core XML schema for representing authorization and entitlement policies. Congratulations to the XACML TC co-chairs, Hal Lockhart of Oracle, and Bill Parducci, and to all TC participants including representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsors, IBM, Microsoft, and Primeton, and by Sponsors, Axiomatics, Boeing, CA Technologies, Cisco, EMC, Jericho Systems, Oracle, Quest Software, Red Hat, SailPoint, U.S. Veterans Health Administration, ViewDS, and others for this accomplishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
searchRetrieve 1.0 becomes OASIS Standard

The new standard defines a generic protocol for the interaction required between a client and server for performing searches. Congratulations to the Search Web Services TC co-chairs, Ray Denenberg of the U.S. Library of Congress and Matthew Dovey of the University of Bristol, and to all TC participants for this accomplishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AS4 Profile of ebMS 3.0 becomes OASIS Standard

AS4 is the modern successor of AS2 (IETF RFC 4130), a B2B messaging protocol widely adopted in retail and other industries. AS4 uses Web Services technologies championed by OASIS and conforms to the WS-I Basic Profile. Congratulations to the ebXML Messaging Services TC co-chairs, Makesh Rao of Cisco, and Sander Fieten, and to all TC participants including representatives of OASIS Sponsors, Axway, Cisco, Fujitsu, and others for this accomplishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Electronic Court Filing 4.01 public review begins

The specification describes the technical architecture and the functional features needed to accomplish a successful system for submitting electronic filings to courts of law. This public review ends 1 Apr.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XACML 3.0 Additional Combining Algorithms Profile public review begins

OASIS invites public comment on this version 1.0 Profile which defines useful but optional combining algorithms for representing authorization and entitlement policies. The review ends 27 Feb.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TransGov Framework (TGF) Pattern Language Core Patterns public review begins

The Transformational Government Framework (TGF) provides a practical "how to" standard for the design and implementation of an effective program of technology-enabled change at national, state or local government level. TGF Pattern Language is a formalization of the Framework that is both human-readable and machine-tractable. The public review ends 29 Mar.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WS-Calendar Schedule Signals and Streams public review begins

WS-Calendar adapts existing calendaring standards (used in human interactions) for Web services. This document defines a normative structure for conveying time-series of information conformant with WS-Calendar. The work is finding initial use in enterprise scheduling, in energy markets (EMIX and Energy Interoperation), and in combination with BIM (Building Information Models) to enhance energy models. The public review ends 21 Feb.

Members prepare for XACML and KMIP Interops at RSA

Fourteen companies--the largest group to date--will participate in OASIS Interoperability Demonstrations at RSA Conference, 25-27 Feb, in San Francisco. Cryptsoft, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, QuintessenceLabs, Thales e-Security, Townsend Security, and Vormetric will demonstrate end-to-end encryption using KMIP. Axiomatics, Boeing, Dell, Forgerock, NextLabs, Oracle, and ViewDS will show how authorization and entitlement policies can be enforced with XACML. Free expo passes are available for OASIS members.
