Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Updated: (MQTT-10) Should Qos=0 retained messages be persisted in the server?
[ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/MQTT-10?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel ] Richard Coppen updated MQTT-10: ------------------------------- Fix Version/s: 3.1.1 Affects Version/s: 3.1.1 Proposal: Retained messages MUST be stored according to the server's capability to store messages as defined in the <new section on QoS and storage>. Note to editors: non-section considered, however valid use cases exist for Qos 0 retained messages. was:Retained messages MUST be stored according to the servers capability to store messages, however a conforming implementation MAY decide to not retain QoS 0 retained messages over server restarts irrespective of how well it stores Qos=1 or Qos=2 messages. Would an implementation be conformant if you were to ignore always RETAINED for Qos 0 i.e., pub Qos=0, Retained=1 Options: 1. Disconnect immediately 2. accept, but override to Retained=0 3. Assume it means retain for the life-cycle of the publishers connection 4. Assume it means retain for the life-cycle of the publishers session 5. Honour Retain as for Qos 1 or Qos 2 i.e., until catastrophic failure or admin intervention 6. May discard Qos 0 Retained messages at any time even where Qos 1 or Qos 2 messages survive > Should Qos=0 retained messages be persisted in the server? > ---------------------------------------------------------- > > Key: MQTT-10 > URL: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/MQTT-10 > Project: OASIS Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) TC > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: core > Affects Versions: 3.1.1 > Environment: MQTT server > Reporter: Andrew Banks > Fix For: 3.1.1 > > > The current specification states that : > Retained messages should be kept over restarts of the server. > Is this correct even for Qos=0 retained publications? -- This message is automatically generated by JIRA. - If you think it was sent incorrectly contact one of the administrators: http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/secure/Administrators.jspa - For more information on JIRA, see: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira
