Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (MQTT-253) Subscription identification

    [ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/MQTT-253?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=64324#comment-64324 ]

Shawn McAllister commented on MQTT-253:
---------------------------------------

Apologies for missing recent TC calls where perhaps this was discussed, but we discussed this feature at the f2f in Hursley including its complexity/feature interactions (only some of which is starting to be exposed here) and its scalability implications (which happens when you need more state for millions or 10’s of millions of subscriptions) and I thought we decided to drop this feature for 5.0 as a result.

What is the rationale for / new information leading to revisiting this decision and for considering making this feature mandatory for brokers?

This is a significant change request.

> Subscribe and unsubscribe operations are performed on topic filters in MQTT 3.1.1. Adding subscription identifiers would enable unambiguous identification of subscriptions.
