Subject: Re: [mqtt-comment] MQTT-SN update and candidate MQTT Logo review

Hi,

I think #1 has aproblem on white background and #2 on black background.
Both at the same "place" - top right of the "square" with the top cuts
of the non "lila" outer circle part, as the color seems to bleed into the background. Effect is at that position more prominent than at the other "cuts".

But, still my first impression rendering the PDF in Preview on Apple Mac OS and a 2011 Macbook Pro was to look at that "defect" which is no defect at all, but catches my eyes.

The current logo in the same file avoids this "eye catcher" (due to the
3d like rendition of the gradients I guess.

Please take this just as an optional feedback from my eyes directly
to the designers - I am OK with all three renditions.

I wonder, why the .ORG got dropped - is this a widening of scope for the logo?

All the best,
Stefan

Hi Nick

Thanks for the feedback.

We will make the logos available in the common graphics file formats so people can easily use them.

HiveMQ intends to assign ownership of the logos to OASIS. My expectation is that the OASIS trademarkÂguidelines will cover this logo. https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/trademark

    Good work!

#1 looks better than #2 in my opinion!

What formats will the new logo be made available in?

Will there be a license assocated with the new logo?

    Hello All,

As Richard explained HiveMQ would like to suggest a new redesign
    of the MQTT logo.

The MQTT logo is used throughout the industry as an identifier of
the MQTT standard. Unfortunately the current logo was designed
many many years ago and is looking a bit old. The current design
doesnât present MQTT as the modern, innovative, de-facto IoT
    standard it has become.

It is common practice for organizations to update their brand
identifiers and logos. For this reason, HiveMQ would like to
suggest an update to the MQTT logo. We would like the MQTT TC to
approve concept #1 as the new official MQTT logo.

There were three goals we wanted for the new redesign:
    1. The new design needed to look similar to the existing logo so
people who know MQTT will recognize the logo. As Richard
mentioned, an evolution not a revolution.
    2. The new design needs to use current graphic design concepts and
look like a more modern logo.
    3. The new design needs to be usable in different use cases, ie.
small icon format, with/without the word mark, etc.

Attached are two concepts that we feel achieve these goals. Our
    preference is for concept #1.

I look forward to hearing the TC feedback and ideally approval of
    concept #1.

    Thanks
    Ian

        Hi,

I Hope you are safe and well.

Hopefully you've seen the fantastic feedback on the MQTT-SN
webinar held this week. We attracted 894 registrations with
        473 attending the session.

As you are aware, the TC has taken a break while we get the
MQTT-SN subcommittee got up and running and it's been a fair
while since we've had the whole MQTT team together.

During this time OASIS have opened a new swag store >
        https://www.redbubble.com/people/oasisopen/works/46186888 <
This got the team at HiveMQ thinking about modernising the
mqtt.org <http://mqtt.org> website and refreshing the MQTT logo.

The HiveMQ team are now in a position to socialize some
candidate logo designs for us to evaluate. The refresh is in
the spirit of evolution rather than revolution, but the TC
will need to approve formally any change to the logo.

Hopefully everyone on the TC will be enthusiastic in
supporting this initiative. However, it's important that we
evaluate it carefully and everyone gets an opportunity to
share their views and give feedback.

Having spoken with Chet, I've put forward the following steps
for us to manage the logo review approval.

        1. Socialize this with the TC requesting evaluation and
feedback for a period of at least two weeks.

        2. Setup a TC meeting for the end of the evaluation period to
        review and address any feedback.

        3. Vote to agree a ballot

        4. HiveMQ contribute final artwork to OASIS as they own the
        MQTT brand.

        5. Hold a simple majority ballot open to all members so that
everyone has had a fair chance to review, feedback and approve.

The exact ordering of steps might need adjusting. However, the
first step would be to get some feedback on the logo ideas the
HiveMQ team would like to put forward. You'll soon see an
email to the TC from them asking for your thoughts and
feedback. Please do take a moment to look, review and take part.

Any questions, then please let me know.

        Best regards

        Richard
