Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (MQTT-568) Authentication

    [ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/MQTT-568?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=77765#comment-77765 ]

Ian Craggs commented on MQTT-568:
---------------------------------

MQTT 5.0 has a basic authentication method using username and password which are included in the connect packet, and an extended method with an AUTH packet which allows challenge response authentication.

There are no username and password fields in the MQTT-SN connect packet. There are no flag fields available either, if we continue the principle of the flags byte being the same for all packets.

Either the username and password have to be added to the connect packet, or to an auth packet along with the other options.

> Authentication has been raised as an important omission.Â
> Mirroring the MQTT 5.0 AUTH packet seems like a good idea.
