IBM, Nokia, and Oracle Representatives Join OASIS Board

Frederick Hirsch of Nokia, Jeff Mischkinsky of Oracle, and Michael
Weiner of IBM were elected by the OASIS membership to serve on the
consortium's Board of Directors. The three fill open positions created
by a recent change in the Bylaws to expand the Board to 11 seats. They
join existing directors, John Borras of the United Kingdom Office of
e-Envoy, Edward Cobb of BEA, Colin Evans of Intel, Patrick Gannon of
OASIS, Eduardo Gutentag of Sun Microsystems, Jim Hughes of
Hewlett-Packard, Chris Kurt of Microsoft, and Laura Walker.

Service Provisioning Markup Language (SPML) Approved as OASIS Standard

SPML v1.0, an XML-based framework for exchanging and administering user
access rights and resource information across
heterogeneous environments, has been approved as the newest OASIS
Standard. Congratulations to the OASIS Provisioning Services TC, and its
chair, Darran Rolls, for their outstanding work.

OASIS Members Advance Protocol for Monitoring and Controlling
Asynchronous Web Services

The consortium has begun work on a specification to enable the
control and monitoring of asynchronous or long-running Web services. The
OASIS Asynchronous Service Access Protocol (ASAP) TC is
developing a SOAP extension that will accommodate latency between the
request
for a resource or service and its actual return. ASAP is applicable for
areas as diverse as workflow, business process management, e-commerce,
data mining, and mobile wireless devices.

Announcing OASIS Open Standards Day Japan

The OASIS Open Standards Days Tokyo 2003, November 20-21, is the first
event in Japan where both management and technical professionals from
the business and government sector can gather to share the information
and implementation experiences on the key OASIS open standards. The
event will feature presentations on ebXML, UBL, WS-Reliability, WSBPEL,
and other OASIS specifications. Karl Best will keynote, and Tim McGrath
of the OASIS UBL TC will make a presentation. OASIS Open Standards Days
Tokyo is sponsored by Computer Associates Japan, IBM, Infoteria,
Fujitsu, Hitachi, Microsoft, NEC, Oracle Japan, and Synergy Incubate.

Draft PKI Action Plan Posted for Review and Comment

The OASIS Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) TC has posted a draft PKI
Action Plan for public review and is seeking comments and support from
PKI customers, vendors, experts, and others. This plan is designed to
address obstacles to PKI deployment and usage identified through surveys
conducted earlier this year.
