consortium.

OASIS Publishes Guidelines for Translating Standards

To enable communities around the world to more easily implement OASIS
work, the consortium is seeking volunteers interested in providing or
funding unofficial translations of OASIS Standards and specifications.
Translators may work alone or together with others in the XML community.

News Standards Summit to Be Held at XML 2003

OASIS will co-sponsor a one-day News Standards Summit on Monday, 8 Dec,
in conjunction with XML 2003 in Philadelphia. The event will bring
together major players--experts on news metadata standards as well as
commercial news providers, users, and aggregators. All are welcome to
attend; pre-registration is required.

OASIS and W3C Co-host Town Hall at XML 2003

OASIS is co-hosting a Town Hall meeting with W3C on Thursday, 11 December at
7:00-9:00 pm. Technical leaders from each organization will provide a brief
overview
of current activity in WS/SOA standards.

OASIS Launches XML.org Focus Area for Localisation

OASIS developed the newest XML.org Focus Area in cooperation with the
Localisation Research Centre (LRC), Europe's information, research, and
educational institute for the linguistic and cultural adaptation of
software. The XML.org Focus Area on Localisation serves as a central
clearinghouse for information on XML and related standards for the
localisation industry.

OASIS Tax XML TC Wins XML Award

This year, the Holland SGML/XML User Group has awarded 'XML Initiative of
the Year' to the OASIS Tax XML TC.
Peter Lehr accepted the award on behalf of the TC chair, Harm Jan van Burg
of De Belastingdienst, in recognition of their work for the advancement of
XML open standards in the
area of taxation.

OASIS Team Talks


25-26 Nov--Pim van der Eijk, OASIS European Representative, will make a
presentation at eWorld Integration, Web Services & Business
Intelligence, London, UK.

26-27 Nov--Patrick Gannon will present "The Role of Standards in
Achieving Web Services Benefits" at Integration - XML & Web Services
2003, Paris, France.

2 Dec--Ram Kumar will present, 'Overview the of OASIS Standards Process' at
the International eBusiness Forum, Sydney, Australia.

3 Dec--Pim van der Eijk will make an ebXML presentation at Javapolis,
Antwerp, Belgium.

7 Dec--OASIS participates in presentations, Interoperability Demonstrations
and a Town Hall at XML 2003, Philadelphia, Penn.

15-16 Dec--Pim van der Eijk will make an ebXML presentation at the Iceland
Committee on Trade Procedures and e-Commerce, Reykjavik, Iceland.
