collaborated on four separate interoperability demonstrations of OASIS
Standards and specifications at the XML 2003 conference in Philadelphia

Agency (NCA), NEC, US National Institute of Standards and Technology

News Standards Summit

More than 80 experts on news metadata standards, commercial news
providers, users, and aggregators attended last week's News Standards
Summit co-sponsored by OASIS, IDEAlliance, IFRA, IPTC, and NAA.
Participants analyzed the current state and future expectations for news
and publishing XML efforts from both the content and processing model
perspectives.

Those interested in the formation of an OASIS Technical Committee to
develop a reference implementation incorporating existing news standards
should contact scott.mcgrath@oasis-open.org.

World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Advocates Standards

Representing OASIS at WSIS in Geneva last week, Patrick Gannon joined
more than 11,000 delegates from 176 countries, meeting with heads of
state, governmental ministers, technology providers, and executives of
ISO, ITU, and UNECE. Attendees adopted a WSIS Declaration of Principles
advocating the use of standards:

Standardization is one of the essential building blocks of the
Information Society. There should be particular emphasis on the
development and adoption of international standards. The
development and use of open, interoperable, non-discriminatory
and demand-driven standards that take into account needs of users
and consumers is a basic element for the development and greater
diffusion of ICTs and more affordable access to them, particularly
in developing countries. International standards aim to create an
environment where consumers can access services worldwide
  regardless of underlying technology.

January 2004, announcements on upcoming press releases and other
promotional opportunities at the consortium will only be sent to this
