OASIS News 8 March 2004 Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Booz Allen Hamilton Sponsors OASIS Symposium Booz Allen Hamilton has joined Adobe, IBM, and Sun Microsystems as an OASIS Symposium sponsor. The generous contributions of these organizations make it possible for OASIS to offer a content-rich event for a minimal meeting fee. We greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Users Sign Petition in Support of AVDL and WAS Adoption A grass-roots effort is being mounted to advance the adoption of two OASIS specifications, Application Vulnerability Description Language (AVDL) and Web Application Security (WAS). Network Magazine is lobbying vendors to adopt these specs, which editors characterize as key to enabling better interoperability between security equipment. The publication is calling on the user community to unite in support of AVDL and WAS by signing online petitions, which Network Magazine plans to present to vendors as evidence of overwhelming demand for standards compliance over proprietary solutions. "By making their voices heard, network managers will provide a much-needed wake-up call for vendors and deliver the incentive necessary to implement open standards such as AVDL and WAS in products across the board," said Dave Greenfield, international technology editor of Network Magazine. WAS provides a standard way to describe Web security conditions, and AVDL defines the method for exchanging vulnerability information. Through both of these efforts, OASIS members address the challenge of how businesses manage ongoing application security risk on a day-to-day basis.
