accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium.

Board Outlines OASIS Strategy

 

A new document outlining a three- to five-year strategy for

accomplishing the Consortium’s mission has just been published by the

OASIS Board of Directors. The plan addresses the needs of the current

membership, prospective members, and all those using or affected by

OASIS work. Many thanks to Frederick Hirsch of Nokia and all that served

on the OASIS Board Strategy Committee for their efforts in producing

this document.

OASIS Issues Call for Participation for New Semantic Execution

Environment TC

 

This week, the Consortium announced the formation of the OASIS Semantic

Execution Environment (SEE) TC. The aim of the TC will be to provide

guidelines, justifications and implementation directions for an

execution environment for Semantic Web services. The work of this

committee will be relevant to parties interested in Web services and

SOA. The inaugural meeting will be sponsored by DERI and will be held

via telephone on 11 Nov.

OASIS WSRF TC Submits Documents for Public Review

 

The OASIS Web Services Resource Framework (WSRF) TC has submitted

WS-Resource Framework specifications for public review. WSRF defines an

open framework for modeling and accessing stateful resources using Web

services. The package includes WS-Resource, WS-ResourceProperties,

WS-ResourceLifetime, WS-ServiceGroup, and WS-BaseFaults specifications.

All interested parties are encouraged to submit commentary by 28 Oct.

Cosgrove-Sacks Joins OASIS; European Staff Expands

 

Dr. Carol Cosgrove-Sacks has joined OASIS as Senior Advisor on

International Standards Policy, responsible for liaison with European

and international organizations. For the past 11 years, Carol served as

Director of the Trade Division, United Nations Economic Commission for

Europe [UNECE] in Geneva. She is a part-time Professor at the College of

Europe, Bruges: Professor; a Visiting Professor at Europa Institute,

Basel University; and a Board Member at the Centre for Euro-Asian

Studies, University of Reading, UK. She speaks English, French, and

German and is based in Geneva.

 

The OASIS European staff has also expanded to include Kurt Sollod, who

will be responsible for identifying and supporting new members in

Europe. Kurt has a CEP from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris.

He speaks French and English and is based in Paris.

OASIS Seeks to Expand Staff

 

The Consortium is seeking qualified applicants to fill the following

staff positions: Manager of Asian-Pacific Development, Director of

Business Development & Adoption Services, Program Assistant, and Systems

Administrator/Web Developer.

USGS Announces Use of CAP Messages for Earthquakes

 

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recently announced a new

service that provides Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) messages for

reviewed reports of earthquake events. The CAP OASIS Standard is a data

interchange specification for alert and event notification applications.

Onsite Registration Still Available for OASIS Adoption Forum

 

The annual OASIS Adoption Forum will be the 17-18 Oct at the Hilton

Metropole in London. Attendees that have no yet registered may do so at

the onsite registration desk. Registration fees are 300 USD for OASIS

members and 400 USD for non-members. The fee includes all sessions,

luncheon, coffee breaks, and associated materials as well as

OpenDocument and DITA Focus event.
