OASIS News
7 August 2006

Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements,
accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium.

OASIS Staff Work to Restore Mail List Functionality

OASIS IT staff continue to work on restoring full email functionality in
the aftermath of last week's server crash. Committee and comment mail
lists are now functioning. Full access to the mail list archives and
functionality for other lists residing on the oasis-open.org, xml.org,
coverpages.org, and ebxml.org domains will be restored as soon as
possible. OASIS deeply regrets the impact of this situation on its
members and their work. Updates on service restoration will be posted at
the members homepage.

OASIS Code List Representation TC Forms

Members of OASIS announced plans to standardize the interchange of
controlled vocabulary sets used by communities to express commonly-
accepted concepts. The format developed by the TC will support actual
codes (including alternative codes and composite multi-part codes) and
related documentation and management information. The new OASIS Code
List Representation TC will operate under the "RF on Limited Terms" mode
of the OASIS IPR Policy, and its first meeting will take place on
28 August by teleconference. New members are welcome.

OASIS DITA TC Forms Specialization Subcommittee

A subcommittee for Learning and Training Content Specialization has been
formed by the OASIS Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) TC.
The DITA OASIS Standard is a document creation and management
specification that builds content reuse into the authoring process. The
new subcommittee, chaired by John Hunt of IBM, will develop a general,
top-level design for structured, intent-based authoring of learning
content with good learning architecture, following DITA principles and
best practices.
