OASIS News 23 October 2006 Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Members Comment on Committee Voting Rule The OASIS Board Process Committee invites members to comment on a proposal to change TC voting rights. Currently every person who holds "Voting Member" status in a Committee is eligible to vote on Committee ballots. There is no limit to the number of employees from a single organization that may cast votes within a Committee. Some members have expressed concerns regarding the fairness of this approach. They feel it often results in a drain on organizations' resources (as companies feel pressured to keep their participant count equal to that of others on the TC) and difficulties in managing quorum. Other members have reservations about making a change in the OASIS TC Process that might reduce participation by removing the incentive of voting, grant one Individual member of OASIS the same voting power as an entire organization, and unfairly restrict the voting rights of many valuable Committee participants. The actions under evaluation at this time include: (a) leaving the rules as currently written; (b) capping the total number of votes that may be cast by TC members from a single organization to 1, 2 or 3; (c) capping the total number of votes that may be cast by TC members from a single organization based on membership level. Members are encouraged to post their comments on this issue to oasis-member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org by 20 Nov. http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/oasis-member-discuss/200610/maillist.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Public Review Begins for WebCGM v2.0 The OASIS CGM Open WebCGM TC has recently approved the WebCGM Version 2.0 specification as a Committee Draft and approved the package for public review.
