OASIS News
29 January 2007

Welcome to OASIS News, a bi-weekly update of announcements, accomplishments,
and activities for the international standards consortium.

Balloting Underway for OpenDocument v1.1

An OASIS Standard Call for Vote has been issued for the Open Document Format
for Office Applications (OpenDocument) v1.1. With added accessibility-related
enhancements, OpenDocument v1.1 defines an XML schema for office documents,
including text, spreadsheets, charts, and presentations. OpenDocument v1.0 was
approved as an OASIS Standard in May 2005 and as an ISO standard (ISO/IEC
26300) in May 2006. Balloting for v1.1 closes 31 January 2007.

Review eContracts v1.0

The OASIS LegalXML eContracts TC has approved eContracts v1.0 as a Committee
Draft and submitted the package for public review. eContracts facilitates the
maintenance of precedent or template contract documents and terms for use in
creating new contracts with automated tools. Use cases covered include
negotiated business contracts, ticket contracts, standard form business and
consumer contracts, and click-through agreements. The review ends 27 March
2007.

OASIS WSS TC Completes Work

The charter of the OASIS Web Services Security (WSS) TC has been successfully
completed, and members have voted to close the Committee. Since its formation
in July 2002, the TC standardized two versions (1.0 and 1.1) of WS-Security and
produced security token profiles for Usernames, X.509 certificates, SAML (1.0,
1.1, and 2.0) assertions, REL licenses, and Kerberos tickets. They also
standardized a profile for the use of WS-Security in conjunction with SOAP With
Attachments (SWA). These OASIS Standards are in wide use today and provide the
basis for end-to-end security in Web services. Follow-on work to define token
acquisition, secure conversations, and security policy is occurring in the
OASIS Web Services Secure Exchange (WS-SX) TC. Congratulations to OASIS WSS TC
co-chairs, Kelvin Lawrence of IBM and Chris Kaler of Microsoft and to all the
members of the Committee for their contributions and dedication to this effort.

OASIS PLCS TC Transitions to Royalty Free on Limited Terms IPR Mode

Members of the OASIS Product Life Cycle Support (PLCS) TC have voted to adopt
the "RF on Limited Terms" IPR mode for their work. This mode requires all
Obligated Parties to license their Essential Claims using Royalty Free
licensing elements as described in the OASIS IPR Policy. PLCS seeks to provide
an international standard for product data exchange (ISO 10303) to support
complex engineered assets from concept to disposal.
