Service Data Objects (SDO) TC forms

Members of OASIS have formed a new TC to evolve and standardize SDO
specifications that simplify the way SOA applications handle data. Using SDO,
application programmers can uniformly access and manipulate data from
heterogeneous data sources, including relational databases, XML data sources,
Web services, and enterprise information systems. Proposers of the OASIS SDO
TC, which is associated with the Open CSA Member Section, include
representatives of BEA, IBM, Oracle, SAP, Xcalia, and others. The TC's first
meeting will be a teleconference on 29 Nov. New participants are welcome.

OASIS announces 'Open Standards 2008: SOA Composability' symposium

Next year's annual OASIS event, the Open Standards 2008 symposium, is scheduled
for 28 April - 1 May in Santa Clara, California, USA. Organized on the theme
'Composability within SOA', the event will be an opportunity for both
researchers and business practitioners to state their challenges, best
practices, and experiences. It will also be a forum where technology
architects provide a fair assessment of the current status of composability
standards and implementations, including opportunities for improvement and
potential obstacles. The OASIS TAB invites proposals for talks, panel sessions,
and tutorials; submission must be received by 17 Dec.

SAML Metadata specifications become OASIS Standards

Members have approved the Metadata Profile for the Security Assertion Markup
Language (SAML) 1.x and the Metadata Extension for SAML 2.0 and 1.x Query
Requesters as OASIS Standards. SAML defines an XML-based framework for creating
and exchanging security information between online partners. Congratulations to
Security Services TC co-chairs, Hal Lockhart of BEA Systems and Brian Campbell,
and to all TC participants for this accomplishment.

OASIS Standard ballot on Election Markup Language (EML) 5.0 opens

The OASIS Election and Voter Services TC has submitted EML 5.0 to be considered
as an OASIS Standard. EML provides a standard method for structured interchange
among hardware, software, and service providers who engage in any aspect of
providing election or voter services to public or private organizations. On 16
Nov, a Call for Vote on EML 5.0 will
be issued to all OASIS member organizations. Members who wish to discuss this
ballot may do so through member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Public review begins for ODF 1.1 Accessibility Guidelines 1.0

The OASIS Open Document Format (ODF) for Office Applications TC has approved
version 1.0 of the Accessibility Guidelines for ODF 1.1 as a Committee Draft
and submitted it for public review. The Accessibility Guidelines describe
requirements ODF 1.1 implementations must meet to gain, persist, and present
information so that users with disabilities are equally able to read, create,
and edit documents. The review ends 21 Dec.

Public review begins for EDXL-HAVE 1.0

The OASIS Emergency Management TC has approved version 1.0 of the Emergency
Data Exchange Language (EDXL) Hospital AVailability Exchange (HAVE) as a
Committee Draft and submitted it for public review. EDXL-HAVE specifies an XML
document format that allows communication on the status of hospital services
and resources, including bed capacity and availability, emergency room status,
and available service coverage. The review ends 18 Dec.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Second public review begins for WSRP 2.0

The OASIS Web Services for Remote Portlets TC has disposed of comments from the
initial public review of WSRP version 2.0 and submitted it for a second, 15-day
public review. The specification enables an application designer or
administrator to select from a rich choice of compliant, remote content and
application providers, and integrate them with no programming effort. This
revision of WSRP adds consumer-managed coordination, additional lifecycle
management and a set of related aggregation enhancements. All are invited to
provide comments on WSRP 2.0; this review ends 15 Nov.

OASIS seeks candidates for Technical Advisory Board

Nominations remain open until 30 Nov for candidates interested in filling a
vacated seat on the TAB. The successful candidate will participate in the TAB's
mission to identify opportunities and areas for standardization within
OASIS that are beneficial for the entire community. A 30-day special election
