Welcome to OASIS News, a bi-weekly update of announcements, accomplishments, and activities for the international open standards consortium.

OASIS schedules elections for Board of Directors and TAB

From 1 April until 14 May the consortium will accept nominations for five seats on the OASIS Board of Directors and four seats on the Technical Advisory Board (TAB). Each position will serve a two-year term beginning in July. Any individual may serve on the Board or TAB; nominations must be made by an OASIS organizational member.

Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) TC forms

All interested parties are invited to participate in the new OASIS KMIP Technical Committee. This group will work to develop specifications for key lifecycle management, key sharing, long-term availability of cryptographic objects, and related areas. The KMIP TC will operate under the Royalty Free on RAND mode of the OASIS IPR Policy. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsors, IBM as well as Brocade, Cisco, EMC, HP, Thales, and others. Robert Griffin of EMC serves as convener; a TC chair or two co-chairs will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held on 24 April at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.

Members propose Emergency Management Adoption Committee

All interested parties are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the OASIS Emergency Management Adoption Committee. The group will collaborate to provide expertise and resources to educate the marketplace on the value of the Emergency Management OASIS Standards, CAP and EDXL. Committee proposers include representatives of Warning Systems and others; Thomas Ferrentino serves as convener. The comment period for this draft charter closes 23 March.

HIMSS to feature XSPA interop for healthcare privacy

A demonstration hosted by OASIS and the U.S. Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) will showcase existing OASIS standards in a Cross-Enterprise Security and Privacy Authorization (XSPA) profile at the HIMSS conference, 4-8 April in Chicago, Booth 7750. The demo will implement privacy and access controls recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the secure electronic exchange of information between and within healthcare enterprises. Sun Microsystems, Jericho Systems, Red Hat, the U.S. Departments of Defense and of Veterans Affairs will participate.

European Identity Conference in Munich to include OASIS workshops

On 5 May, OASIS will host a roundtable, "From 30,000 Feet - The Landscape of Identity Management Standards from the Public and Private Perspectives." A second OASIS workshop, "Exploring the Risks & Solutions Involved in Securing Identity and Access Management," will be held on 8 May.

Consortium welcomes new translator for OASIS Japanese website
