Subject: Re: Would Open Floor Plan fit into oBIX?
What role could the Cicso mediator have in a hybrid effort?

Hi Toby,
We've been discussing whether to form a new OASIS TC for the Open Floor Plan Display/Exchange (OFPD/X) standard effort, or bring it into OASIS under an existing TC. The Emergency Management TC is already managing an overfull plate of activities, many of which are at least partially suggestions of mine, so for that reason alone, I am recommending against that possibility. OBIX is another possibility we have been thinking about because it fits a broader spectrum of interests than emergency response, so I'm writing to ask your thoughts on this.
Frankly, eliminating the need to charter a TC from scratch is almost a necessity for us, but even if you're receptive to the prospect, it would likely mean a review of the oBIX charter at a minimum to see how good a fit it is, and whether it is even feasible without requiring any amendment to the oBIX TC Charter. The first paragraph of that charter follows:
"The purpose of the OASIS Open Building Information Exchange (oBIX) TC is to define a standard web services protocol to enable communications between building mechanical and electrical systems, and enterprise applications. This protocol will enable facilities and their operations to be managed as full participants in knowledge-based businesses."
I'm not sure that the Open Floor Plan Display/Exchange effort could be constrained to a web service rather than a standalone, lightweight specification capable of delivery on any platform, web service based or not.
Hence I'm writing to ask your thoughts on this as a part of our decision-making process.
Cheers,
Rex
