Subject: 30-day Public Review for OData Extension for Data Aggregation V4.0

The OASIS Open Data Protocol (OData) TC [1] members have recently approved a Committee Specification Draft (CSD) and submitted this specification for 30-day public review:

OData Extension for Data Aggregation Version 4.0
Committee Specification Draft 01 / Public Review Draft 01
25 July 2013

Specification Overview:

The Open Data Protocol (OData) enables the creation of REST-based data services, which allow resources, identified using Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) and defined in an Entity Data Model (EDM), to be published and edited by Web clients using simple HTTP messages.

OData Extension for Data Aggregation Version 4.0 adds basic grouping and aggregation functionality (e.g. sum, min, and max) to the Open Data Protocol (OData) without changing any of the base principles of OData.

TC Description:

The OASIS OData TC works to simplify the querying and sharing of data across disparate applications and multiple stakeholders for re-use in the enterprise, Cloud, and mobile devices. A REST-based protocol, OData builds on HTTP, AtomPub, and JSON using URIs to address and access data feed resources. It enables information to be accessed from a variety of sources including (but not limited to) relational databases, file systems, content management systems, and traditional Web sites. OData provides a way to break down data silos and increase the shared value of data by creating an ecosystem in which data consumers can interoperate with data producers in a way that is far more powerful than currently possible, enabling more applications to make sense of a broader set of data. Every producer and consumer of data that participates in this ecosystem increases its overall value.

Public Review Period:

The public review starts 20 August 2013 at 00:00 GMT and ends 19 September 2013 at 23:59 GMT.

This is an open invitation to comment. OASIS solicits feedback from potential users, developers and others, whether OASIS members or not, for the sake of improving the interoperability and quality of its technical work.
