Because this was not defined in Version 4.0, clients should assume, in absence of the facet, that the collection *may* contain null values, but should be aware that the service may not support specifying collections containing null values.

Note that the client always has to be prepared for the service to fail an update for validation reasons not expressible through $metadata.
