Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] (ODATA-1106) Introduce mechanism for selecting default properties

    [ https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/ODATA-1106?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=67179#comment-67179 ]

Ralf Handl commented on ODATA-1106:

Servers currently can't express what the default set of properties is, because we closed ODATA-571 without action.

Clients usually know which properties they need, and can list them explicitly in $select.

Being able to select "all that I need, plus some unspecified and unknown set of properties the service might want to add" seems to add little value, especially because the service can return additional properties anyway.

> Fix For: V4.01_CS01
> Today, in the absence of $select, services can return a default set of properties that is a subset of the full set of available properties.
> Client can use $select=* to select all properties, but there is no way to select default properties plus one or two (potentailly non-default) properties, such as:
> $select=<default>,Address
