Current proposal is as compatible as possible. Clients are already told that they should not fail due to issues with annotations. For XML, the default representation of string is
the most compatible and least likely to break. For JSON, there will be no preconceived notion of what to do with stream.
We should test with existing libraries to see what happens if a term is defined as type
edm.stream.
and decide if services SHOULD NOT or MUST NOT return terms of type
