Waldo,

I think the best representation to the OSDL DTL is that ODF is programmable XML. It represents a new opportunity to innovate at the middleware and application layer above the windowing and desktop layer that has been the primary focus of the DTL; e.g. power mgmt, wireless, print drivers, etc. So it's the next frontier ahead in other words.

We're trying to get the developer community to grok that it's more than an new file format for an outdated desktop office suite market, although there is a huge opportunity to wrest some of that with new innovative applications (hint hint) that leverage what you can do with ODF XML, and related standards; e.g. Xforms.
