Subject: Re: [odf-adoption] ODF Adoption Technical Committee - Minutes of Meeting onMay 16, 2006

Alan,

There is an error in the minutes that I am responsible for and want to correct. The correct acronym for the Chinese variant of ODF is UOF, not UOML.

UOML is affiliated with sursen.com.

[odf-adoption] ODF Adoption Technical Committee - Minutes of Meeting on May 16, 2006

ODF Adoption Technical Committee
Meeting Minutes, Meeting of May 16, 2006
==========================================

Roll Call
=======

Alan Mines, IBM
Don Harbison, IBM
Alan Clark, Novell
Erwin Tenhumberg, Sun Microsystems
Martha Mealy, IBM
Charles Schulz, Ars Aperta
Louis Suarez-Potts, Individual (OpenOffice.org)
Alex Wang, Changfeng Open Standards Platform Software
Mary McRae, OASIS

Minutes of meeting on 2nd May 2006
=====================================

The minutes were accepted without revision.

Minutes of face to face meeting on 10th May 2006
===============================================

The minutes were accepted with the revisions previously circulated by Don
Harbison as follows:-

*     The correct representation of the new XML technology from China is
UOML, Unstructured Operation Markup Language).
*     Action is that we suggest that Roger Hurvitz and Nathaniel Borenstein
contact Alex Wang at alexwang@sursen.com. Alex is the originator of the
UOML technology and is seeking to establish an OASIS TC to work on it.

Agenda
=======

The proposed agenda was accepted.

ODF Alliance Liaison
====================

Marino Marcich was not able to attend - Erwin to follow-up.  There is some
concern over duplication of effort. It was suggested that the Alliance
should appoint a formal liaison to the Committee but that we should not
delay our work whilst waiting for this.

ODF Focus Area
==============

Query regarding sponsorship for site - confirmed that had to be OASIS
member but not necessarily on the TC.

TC Website
==========

Erwin asked for more feedback on his proposal for the main site. We need to
ensure the main TC and our Adoption TC had links to each other. It was
agreed that all responses should be in by next meeting - even if they are
just to say that Erwin's proposal was OK.

Summary of ODF Adoption TC face-to-face meeting
===============================================

Erwin summarised the meeting.

The wiki was now in place at:- http://wiki.oasis-open.org/odf-adoption/

Discussion re gathering various resources - e.g. presentations - where is
the best place to put these? Focus area is a great spot for this as things
stored there are not subject to OASIS IPR policy.

Latest ODF news
===============

- Gartner's first take on ODF

This was very encouraging and supported the message we wanted to get out.
The report is available at http://www.gartner.com/ (search for #G00140101).

- IBM to support ODF in Lotus Notes

On Monday IBM announced that next version of Notes would include the ODF
compatible Document Editors. With 100 million+ users worldwide this could
have a significant impact. (See
http://www-03.ibm.com/press/us/en/pressrelease/19642.wss).

Other Items
===========

Discussion list for conformance - Mary had provided the process but needs a
formal request.

White Paper - agreed need to consider differences in implementations. With
regards to previous agreements on contributions Don would supply his
Accessibility draft by 30th May and Alan would provide draft screenshots by
23rd May.

Wikipedia - need to ensure this is accurate.

Need to respond to Microsoft positioning re ODF. Need to ensure ODF Data
Sheet clearly explains items where others are attempting to muddy the
waters or where there is evidence of misunderstanding in the community.

The meeting was adjourned at this stage.
