ODF Alliance Liaison
++++++++++++++++++++

Marino Marcich attended and led a discussion on the ODF Alliance. He agreed to participate as an Observer.

Now (3) months since its inception it has grown from 35 members to over 180 with representatives from 35 countries. The structure of the ODF Alliance includes an Executive Committee and (4) Advisory Committees. The Advisory Committees are: 1) Accessibility; 2) Communications; 3) Public Policy; and 4) Resources.

The Alliance is now organizing at the local level; e.g. Malaysia.

(15) Alliance members are also members of OASIS.

Marino suggested that it is possible to amplify our content. Specific question need to be addressed; e.g. how does one implement an ODF policy? Where does one begin? Marino suggested that we need to focus our resource and content to address these basic questions. For example, relevant case studies are needed.

Louis called for volunteers to update the ODF entry in Wikipedia. Currently, David Wheeler is editing this.

Gary suggested use case content focused on the areas of accessibility, formulas and metadata, but also the need for use cases that are more general.

Mariono mentioned that Alliance members could provide local language translation support for this content.

Discussion was brief on the Massachusetts RFI. It was noted that the RFI process is public, although the web site had not yet been update to reflect submissions.

Discussion on ODF collateral:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Roger made the point that ODF must establish a separate identify from OpenOffice.org; i.e. many people perceive ODF as the same thing as OpenOffice.

Roger also suggested that Wikipedia's ODF entry serve as the primary resource location for ODF information since it appears as the number 1 hit on Google when querying for ODF information.

Erwin believes that the OASIS ODF Adoption site and the potential new ODF focus area on XML.org would be the most appropriate official location for ODF resources and information as its pedigree is obvious.

Erwin is asking for feedback on the ODF homepage at OASIS.

Discussion on events plan including OpenOffice.org Conference:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Erwin is preparing an abstract for submission to speak that the Wiesbaden standards event, and mentioned that he is speaking at (2) other events: Open Source at Stockholm in September, and Open Source event in The Netherlands in June.

OpenOffice.org is soliciting papers. The deadline is June 1st. Novell will submit a paper. IBM is considering this.

The meeting was adjourned at this stage.
