OpenOffice.org Conference Participation
=======================================

What is the OpenOffice.org Conference?
--------------------------------------

The OpenOffice.org Conferences are attended by 300-500
people from different audiences. The majority of the
sessions have a technical focus, but representatives
from large companies and goverments are among the
speakers and attendees. For example, the City of
Vienna talked about their OpenOffice.org migration
last year, and the French Ministry of the Interior
did a presentation in 2004.

The conferences are organized by the community
on a relatively low budget. Last year's conference
had very good media coverage anyway due to live
webcasts and the keynote by Tim Bray:

Previous agenda's give a good overview about the conference:

Who is planning to submit ODF related sessions?
-----------------------------------------------

There probably will be a full track just about ODF.

Novell's CIO might be interested in doing a keynote about
Novell's migration to OpenOffice.org.

Michael Brauer will do an ODF overview presentation. The
"adoption part" of his presentation could be done by
someone from the ODF Adoption TC.

OpenDocument Format Newsletter
==============================

Does one exist already?
-----------------------
Yes, the ODF Alliance issues a bi-weekly newsletter to its
members. The newsletter will be opened up, so that anybody
can subscribe.

Marino will send out the sign-up link.

Should we create one?
---------------------

It probably does not make sense to duplicate efforts.

Progress on deliverables
========================

TC homepage
-----------
Erwin updated the TC homepage.
Feedback is welcome.
Charles found an alignment problem which occurs on screens
with lower resolutions.
Erwin will fix it.

White paper content
-------------------
Erwin created the first draft Wiki pages.
MoinMoin wiki is different to the MediaWiki used by Wikipedia
and OpenOffice.org. Thus, Erwin had to get used to it.
More content needs to be added over the next few weeks.

We have to watch more closely the ECMA TC45 work, because people
from the ODF Alliance and the ODF Adoption TC get asked positioning
questions, e.g. frequent requests regarding performance.

ODF presentation
----------------
Erwin wants to send out some draft slides soon which can be used
as the basis for an "ODF Golden Pitch" presentation.

The ODF Alliance needs slides as well.

xml.org focus area
------------------
Sun is willing to sponsor, but at least two additional sponsors
are needed.

It was suggested to promote and use the existing Wikipedia pages.
By putting more emphasis on the Wikipedia pages we could leverage
the existing ODF community and enable participation, on the other
hand the Wikipedia page might not be the optimal resource for
ISV's and government users that want to get ODF information from
an "official" resouce.

Anyway, the Adoption TC work should leverage and foster existing
work instead of competing with it, where possible and advisable.
