Subject: ODF Adoption TC - 18 March 2008 - Minutes
- From: donald_harbison@us.ibm.com
- To: "odf-adoption@lists.oasis-open.or" <odf-adoption@lists.oasis-open.org>
- Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2008 13:56:50 -0400
Dear ODF Adoption TC Members:
Here are the minutes of today's TC meeting:
Attendees:
- Don Harbison, Co-Chair, IBM
- Rob Weir
- Alan Clark
Members: 3 of 36 (8%)
Voting Members: 3 of 7 (42%) (used for
quorum calculation)
** A quorum was not achieved.
Erwin and Louis send their regrets.
They were unable to attend due to travel and other conflicts.
- Rob noted that the ODF TC has (3) new
members: Warren Turkel (sp?), Google; Jomar Silva, ODF Alliance Brasil;
and Bob Joliffe, Science & Technology, Government of South Africa.
Welcome!
- Don called for renewed efforts to recruit
new members to the ODF Adoption TC
- Don noted we need to resolve the issue
of international conference calling numbers; the current number places
an undue burden on callers outside of North America. Action: Don and Erwin
to resolve.
- Rob updated us on the current actions
and business of the ODF TC; i.e. focus has been on completing Errata documentation,
correcting grammatical and minor editorial errors reported by the Japanese
team working on translating the ODF specification into Japanese.
- Don highlighted the need for the Adoption
TC members to focus on content deliverables, citing the increased competition
of MSFT and their massive investment in marketing OOXML, especially the
http://openxmldeveloper.org/default.aspx
web site, with its attendant content and community building activities.
The http://opendocument.xml.org
site continues to need more focus and content.
- Rob suggested actively liaison'ing with
the ODF Fellowship to tie together developer content between the two sites
more proactively
- We had an extensive discussion on the
need to refresh the ODF Interop workplan starting in April.
- It was agreed to establish a working
area on the Web; i.e. perhaps a wiki at OASIS for hosting interop work,
test suite documents, forums, etc. We believe we have most of this infrastructure
ready and waiting on opendocument.xml.org
- Document Freedom Day is next Week, March
26th. There will be special events in many cities.
- Rob to investigate possibility of delivering
a lightning talk to the upcoming Linux Foundation, Collaboration Summit
and Desktop Architects Meeting in Austin, TX, April 8 - 10th. Rob will
contact John Walicki, Chair of Linux Desktop Working Group.
- Next Adoption TC call is April 1, 2008...
no joke!
