Subject: RE: [odf-adoption] Draft Matrix of ODF 1.2 Communications Deliverables

Title: RE: [odf-adoption] Draft Matrix of ODF 1.2 Communications Deliverables

Rob,

yes, I second Alan's suggestion.

Some people might ask questions like

- "do I have to change my current documents (again)"
(no, of course not)

- "but I can do X/Y/Z already in Symphony/Openoffice"
(yes, but now it's standardized)

- "my neighbour uses <ancient version of an ODF suite>,
does he have to upgrade if we want to share documents ?"

- "why is there a new version ? why so fast / so slow"

- "why didn't you put in X ? maybe in the next version ?"
(send a mail with your requirement to the comment list)

- "that new metadata thing is really cool, can I use
it right now ?"
(depends on product and release cycle, I suppose)

- "does product X support 1.2 ? if so, do I have to change
some setting ?"

- "when will it become an ISO standard ?"

- "does it mean I can't use ODF 1.1 anymore ?"
(depends on policy of your organization etc)

- "I paid my supplier for supporting an ODF suite, is my
ODF 1.1 application now unsupported ?"

- "I'm using application X, where can I see if a document is
version 1.1 or 1.2 ?"

just my 2 cents

Bart

OK .  So that is a distinct audience:  current ODF 1.0/ODF 1.1 adopters.
They want to know what does ODF 1.2 mean for me?
