Subject: [Fwd: meeting minutes ODF AccSC call - July 20, 2006]
FYI - meeting notes/minutes from Pete Brunet (thanks Pete). Rich - I don't expect to attend the meeting next week. May I suggest that you put on the agenda approving both these meeting minutes, as well as those from last week (July 13th)? Peter

Peter, Please clean up as you see fit...
Attendees: Peter Korn, Hiro, Tatsuya-san, Malte, David Clark, Pete Brunet, Steve Nobel, Dave Pawson
- Peter send out ODF 1.1 draft 6 superseded by TC draft 1, Appendix E page 708-709
- AccSC has been creating an implementation guidelines appendix
- Hiro would like Appendix E moved out of ODF Appendix and into our AccSC implementation guideline
- Peter sees 3 options
- leave Appendix E as is,add comment at beginning or end directing to additional AGs
- strip out Appendix E, direct people to a web page
- delay and try to get entire doc into appendix
--- End Message ---
- Peter prefers option 1 or 2, and 1 over 2
- Hiro would like separate doc to make it easier for i18n effort
- DC: suggests we should not consider option C from Brauer, i.e. to delay process, Peter agrees
- Peter is attending Monday TC meetings
- PK: E1 and E3 is very important (and E2), leave it there, add pointer (using nice URL) to more info
- http://oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/office/guidelines
- TC is leaving it up to AccSC, we don't want them to delay
- PK: Formal proposal - Go with option 1, leave existing instructions in appendix E, but add mention of more info at a URL
- unanimous approval
- PK: Please review the current TC committee draft 1, there is new material to review
- http://oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/office/download.php/19207/OpenDocument-v1.1-cd1.odt
- PK: Please review our guidelines
- PK: comments on section 3?
- Hiro: alt text item has suggested UI, this is for the design of the app itself, not for the author of the app
- PK: We should mention that the tool should provide for the features we are requesting of author
- DC: In AG should cover case where alt text is not needed
- Hiro: This doc is not a compliance doc, it's a guideline for authors (and the editors)
- PK: Use of existing 508 for guidance is a problem, it's changing (and it's US centric) - we should you our own expertise
- Hiro: regarding P1 - P3 priorities, we don't have much experience with docs, how do we make decision about what priority to assign
- PK: IBM and Sun need a guideline to help engineers know what to do
- DC: Objects to priorities - wcag priorities are blind centric at detriment to other disabilities
- DC: Bobbi project (the first web acc. test tool), people were looking at overall Bobbi approval rather than breaking it down into separate issues.
- DC: When you put priorities on it - you end up in case of something being pass/fail
- DC: Doesn't like things being judged as pass/fail
- DC: Bobbi is a tool to get pass/fail - but the page might not really be accessible
- DC: pass fail of what? are we scoring the right things, e.g. grammar checked - if you pass P1 does that mean you are OK if you pass P1-P3 are you great - it just means you passed but it doesn't mean the grammar is any good - there are no metrics on usability or understandability
- PK: a machine can't do this
- SN: policy makers want a checkoff via specs and standards
- PK: guidelines are OK but meeting guidelines doesn't mean you are acc but failing them is a problem - necessary but no sufficient
- PK: other comments on sec 3
- All: none
- PK: section 4?
- Hiro: We need to also talk about export issues
- PK: will change to include export
- PK: section 5?
- All: none
- PK: section 6 - glossary
- DP: submitted some extra definitions
- DP: need clarification that focus indicator is applicable to the user's unique disability, e.g. not blind centric
- PK: need to assign pieces for writing
