Subject: [Fwd: AFB and WGBH Seek Assistance on STEM Description Project]

Greetings ODF Accessibility crew,

You might be interested in the attached announcement of a joint
AFB-WGBH/NCAM project to undertake end-user evaluation of the best
practices for describing STEM images for digital talking books. As we
look at ways of making presentations accessible (thanks to the work led
by our colleagues in IBM research in Japan), the work and results of
this project may prove helpful. To the extent that we can find ways to
automate or assist authors in the process of describing charts and
diagrams and flow-charts, etc., we can make presentations more
accessible to the blind.

Regards,

Peter Korn

See below for an opportunity to participate in a joint project from the American Foundation for the Blind and WGBH's Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM).

The American Foundation for the Blind seeks blind professionals and students in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields to take part in an end user evaluation of best practices for describing STEM images (charts, diagrams, tables, flow charts, etc.) in digital talking books that were developed by WGBH in Boston and its National Center on Accessible Media (NCAM). Participants will be reimbursed for their time. To learn more about the study and to register, please visit http://www.afb.org/Section.asp?DocumentID=3778.

Thank you!
