Subject: RE: [office-collab] change tracking proposal

Hi Frank –

Primarily, I tried to simply think of the set of common user actions that are a priority to support in any change tracking feature set.  Equivalence with MS Office wasn’t my focus but I did look to Word’s feature support as one way to quickly start filling in that desired feature support matrix – a proxy, of sorts, for which particular CT features customers/users find important.  And in case that sentence may be misinterpreted, the proposal is not reflective solely of Word’s capabilities.  For what it’s worth, I also looked at other ODF implementations to ensure I had a broader perspective.

The proposal mentions that the existing prose in the standard would need to be enhanced to be more explicit about how to handle various cases.  Given that happens when the SC gets to the point of editing text in the standard, to the best of my knowledge, the extended proposal should cover any CT Word can handle.

Doug, John,

I assume that you also considered interoperability with MS Office in your proposal. So do the extensions you propose cover all the CT features of MS Office?

Regards,

Frank

Attached is a proposal for improving the existing change tracking specification in ODF 1.2, as previously mentioned.  Robin, please let me know if we should upload this to the wiki.

We’re looking forward to discussing this proposal after people have had a chance to take a look. John has pulled together the bulk of this proposal, so he can answer any specific questions about the details.

Regards,

Doug
