Subject: RE: [office-collab] observation: a formerly "change tracked" insertion of content is splitted into two.

This seems to be more-or-less symmetrical with what happens if someone does a deletion that spans over an existing deletion (demonstrated in MCT Challenge #2).

I think the big question is whether or not users don't have a particular problem with these. It does allow the acceptance/rejection to have a lot of varieties. I assume that users manage to do the right thing and not do any of the strange cases.

This may be a place where simplicity and predictability is preferable, allowing user judgment for the subtleties.

On the other hand, the choice to do this is the producer's. Clearly if this were done by a producer, it should simply be allowed, the same as if it was done in multiple steps in the first place.

What I think is interesting for MCT is this:

Whether one should go farther and allow bundling of changes as single actions, so they can be accepted or rejected, as a unit. Consumers would then have to accept those produced results as well, and whether or not they unbundled for the user is not ours to control. It should be possible to unbundle into the atomic operations, though, especially for down-level conversions and conversions to other formats.

Hi,

I observed in Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 and in Microsoft Word 2010 that a
formerly "change tracked" insertion of text content is splitted into two
"change tracked" insertions by a later insertion of text content.

What do you think about such an behavior?
