Subject: Public Comment

Comment from: jgreif@webalo.com

Name: Jeff Greif
Title: Chief Architect
Organization: Webalo, Inc.
Regarding Specification: OpenDocument 1.0

The specification describes in detail the format of the document, but does not describe all the relationships of the components, in such a way that a 'compliant processor' of the format can be written without further information.

For example, a table cell in spreadsheet document may have a style of the table-cell family, containing text-properties, such as the fo:color attribute of the text. It may also reference a data-style and a parent-style, each of which may supply text-properties, and each of these styles may have conditional alternatives. It is not clear from the specification whether it is ever possible conflicting values of a property, say fo:color, can occur in these various possibilities, and the algorithm for determining the result to be shown. Is there other documentation somewhere which describes these algorithms, or is it necessary to determine this from the behavior of OpenOffice on various examples, or by reading the source code? Is the behavior of OpenOffice definitive?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Jeff
