Subject: ODF 1.2: "Part-of Semantics" ill-defined/contradicted
The comment applies to the following documents: OpenDocument-v1.2-draft7-5.odt 2008-07-18 draft, section 18.1153 text:global (attribute definition) OpenDocument-v1.1-cs1.odt, section 2.3.1 Text Documents, Global Text Documents subsection OpenDocument-v1.0ed2-cs1.odt as ISO/IEC 26300-2006(E), section 2.3.1 Text Documents, Global Text Documents subsection The term "part-of semantics" is used in the explanation of the text:global attribute in each of the listed documents. This term is nowhere defined. In addition, it appears that ODF 1.2 section 18.1153 inverts the meaning of text:global as if it is to be true on a part rather than the master. (I don't know what happens if a part is a master to other parts.) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As an experiment, I converted the draft7-5.odt to a master document using that provision of OpenOffice.org 2.4. I did obtain an .odm master document and 18 .odt subdocuments, but none of them seem to use the text:global attribute. In this case it appears that the distinct MIME Type (with file name extension) distinguishes the master document. - Dennis Dennis E.
