Subject: RE: [office-formula] 3.3 OpenDocument Calculation Settings -Regular Expressions

Unless we have a well-defined regular expression syntax, this calculation setting is going to make interoperability difficult. The work to define the Regular Expression scope and syntax appears to be a large work item to ensure that it is complete and accurate. In an effort to keep OpenFormula moving, I propose that we postpone this work to a future version. To do so, the following changes would need to be made:
* The use-regular-expressions setting would need to be removed from the conformance definition for the small group
* Applications shall write values for all calculation settings including the non-required ones.
* For non-required calculation settings, we will need to be clear what application load behavior should be. Something along the lines of "Inform the user that the workbook may calculate different, or fail to load".

How can we get closure on this and other open issues for OpenFormula? There seems to be limited discussion on the list and we don't have a regularly scheduled call. Should we start with a call bi-weekly? Perhaps we can alternate weeks with the OIC call.

I was going to enter an issue and found this is already being tracked by OFFICE-1474. Has there been any past discussion about the scope of Regular Expression syntax that will be valid in OpenFormula for character string comparisons and when searching?

Thanks,
Eric

I don't think we have a JIRA issue for this. Feel free to enter one.
