Subject: SPEC: Document Creation Date/Time
I have a comment about 6.4.2/6.4.3 in draft-03 of the spec, page 73. There appears to be a "creation date" and a "creation time" field, with dateOrDateTime for one, and timeOrDateTime for the other. This looks like it could be cleaned up by having a single "creation date/time" field. The fact that date, date/time or only time is shown, is a display detail (which would even be switched at runtime). The data in this field is really the date _and_ time of creation of the document, isn't it? In KOffice we also made the mistake to separate date and time fields initially, and then the need for a field showing both date and time comes up and the design doesn't hold. Having a single field in the first place is much cleaner, isn't it? The same applies to 6.4.6 print-time and 6.4.5 print-date, p74, and 6.4.14 modification-time 6.4.15 modification-date p76. Since this is about moments in "time", a good naming for the consolidated variables would be creation-time, print-time and modification-time. They could have both text:time and text:date child elements. -- David FAURE, faure@kde.org, sponsored by Trolltech to work on KDE, Konqueror (http://www.konqueror.org), and KOffice (http://www.koffice.org).
