I'm still not sure how I would understand that sentence. I think the sentence become clear if the list header is treated as an elemenet of its own rather than as a special list item. I've rephrased the paragraph as follows: The Open Office format supports list structures, similar to those found in [HTML4]. A list is a paragraph-level element, which contains an optional list header, followed by a sequence of list items. The list header and each list item contains a sequence of paragraph or list elements. Lists can be nested. Is that okay for you? Michael
