Subject: ISO News!

Greetings,

This just in from the SC34 Secretariat on the submission of the Open
Document to ISO:

>By now you may have noticed in our Programme of Work the new entry for the Open Document Format (ODF), from OASIS, as DIS 26300. This was sent out today at the Enquiry stage 40.20 and the 6-month JTC1 ballot is due 2006-05-01 (I received the notification moments ago while drafting the rest of this letter). Note that in our status matrix it states a 4-month SC ballot for stage 40.20, but this ballot is being run by JTC1, not by us. This is a 700-page specification for an XML vocabulary for office documents, and it is exciting to see that this may soon become an international ISO standard.

SC 34 is holding a plenary meeting in Atlanta, Georgia (November 12-16,
2005) at the XML 2005 conference and I will be speaking with the various
National Body representatives about the proposal.

A spot of bright news for the conference later today!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Patrick
